There’s a surprise wrapped up Inside of me. It’s coming, It’s certain. It’s Change. For some people, the word change can have an especially foul stench; and it seems as though I have become one of those individuals. The older I get, the more challenging it is for me to accept change. And, it’s not as though I can’t see it coming. But if I’m not a part of the initial process, the transformation can seem a bit threatening. What will the change resemble? More importantly, how will the change look on me?

In 2013, I plan to use the following acrostic as a means of motivation and inspiration to face change with a positive heart. Why? The truth is, in order to grow, flourish, and to give off a more fragrant aroma, CHANGE must be seen as necessary versus a necessary inconvenience.

Courage – Not mine, but God’s. Then and only then will I be able to better meet the shifts and turns of life. The mark of a courageous man or woman is not the person who reportedly has no fear, but the one who forges ahead in spite of it.

Hope & Anticipation. Hurt and disappointment can leave a sour taste. On the other hand, hope and anticipation bring the sparkle back to my eyes and work to soften the heart. God’s mercies are new every morning; and, there’s nothing more hopeful than that!

Nerve & Guts. Living life with “arms wide open” is not for the faint at heart. It takes nerve to face change and to reach out into the unknown. It takes guts to want something bad enough to begin making alterations to go get it.

Expectation & Excitement. And, that’s where excitement can take the wheel. Sure, I too have cringed while careening off the road of life’s blowouts and crashes. But, resilience is key. I must recalculate and begin again. I hope to reach out and take a big hold of Change in 2013. Who knows, I just might surprise myself and enjoy it!
