Love is schizophrenic. Love comes in so many different shapes, sizes and colors; understanding its diverse and complex nature seems almost impossible.

Love can be thoughtful and tender like Ronald Reagan’s hand-written love letters to his wife, Nancy, a decade ago. Love letter writing is a dying art.

Love can be longsuffering as displayed by Pastor Frank Wilson’s devotion and care for his wife, Bunny Wilson who was stricken with a physically debilitating illness. While some people have very little patience for ailing loved ones, Wilson demonstrated the power of love between two people, devoted to one another. He cared for his wife for more than 10 years. That is longsuffering.

Love can be unrelenting. A young woman witnessed her new love be gunned down in the streets of Los Angeles. He survived but became an amputee. Friends would encourage her to move on after th incident, but she believed in love. That amputee is me and that young woman became my wife.

Love is also unconditional like the father who gave his only son to save a bunch of heathens like us.  God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that we would not perish but have everlasting life. God’s love was and is the example of true love; I pray that one day, we might all be able to give unconditional love the way the Father gives to us.
