Christmas is important to me because it’s a time for REST.  It’s a time to rest, restore, shut down the Internet, detach from cell phone, and truly walk away from the office to spend quality time with family and friends – some of whom you haven’t seen in a while.

Unfortunately, people are so busy moving fast and making things happen, they forget what the holiday season is really about – slowing down, breathing, and reconnecting with what’s important. It’s your time to live in the moment and embrace your doing so as an act of rest. Activities like baking cookies or pies, playing in the snow, watching football, decorating the house, exercising, reading, going to church, praying, or just having a good laugh are all ways to rest your soul and embrace personal peace.

It’s also time to rest and release the worry and disappointment about the goals you didn’t meet in 2012. You may find great renewal in that 2013 is another chance to accomplish those same goals.

Matthew 11:28-30 ESV reads:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

God says to come to him for rest, for his yoke is easy and his burden is light. This means all burdens are easier because God loves us. And, He showed this love by giving his begotten Son Jesus Christ, as the ultimate gift to the world.

If for no other reason than the appreciation of God’s Love and Sacrifice, we should  rest and see it as part of our holiday cheer. REST WELL!

Happy Holidays!
